2010 – a new decade, ushering in a whole host of changes at the Stockholm Furniture Fair and the Northern Light Fair! The leading forum for Nordic design will be unveiling a brand new look to exhibitors and visitors in February 2010.
The building has been enlarged by 10,000 m2: Hall A has been extended, and the East Entrance has been given a facelift. This has enabled us to give our existing exhibitors the additional space they have long been hoping for, as well as welcoming new exhibitors. It also means that we can make room for even more exciting exhibits. We are ta- king the opportunity to make some big changes to the layout of the fair – see the map inside with hall plans.
Also new for 2010 are our opening times. We are adding an extra weekday for trade visitors, so the fair will now run from Tuesday to Saturday, and will be open to the public on Saturday after- noon. There have also been plenty of changes in terms of our exhibitions. Tough times place greater
demands on all of us when it comes to specialist knowledge. We are therefore focusing on inspira- tion and knowledge exhibitions, as well as a much more extensive seminar programme. For example, to mention just a few:
In the Entrance Hall, visitors will find the “Sel- ler – Learn and Earn” exhibition. This focuses on sales support, sales techniques, exposure and new technology, as opposed to aesthetics and produc- ts. The exhibition is by Camilla Näslund, under the artistic direction of Ola Rune. Here, you will also be able to listen to a variety of instructive talks and seminars. The lounge by 2010 Guest of Honour, Paul Smith, will for the first time be found in the newly-extended Hall A.
The seminars and talks include highlights such as Henrietta Thompson, Design & Arts Editor at Wall- paper* magazine, speaking on the subject of “A New Design Nation: building a country of national treasu- res without falling back on cultural stereotypes”, and Paul Smith talking about where he finds inspiration for in-store décor. Torbjørn Anderssen, one of the founders of Norway Says, will be sharing his views on whether there is such a thing as typical Norwegian design, while Global Color ResearchTM Mix Publica- tions will be holding a seminar entitled “The How and Why of Colour Trend”.
There will also be an architect exhibition, ”What were they thinking?” arranged in association with Forum magazine. Here, you will be able to see fas- cinating examples of what is happing within Nordic
architecture – both now and in the future. Of course, alongside all these new elements you will also find some more familiar features. For example, the Green- house in the Victoria Hall will showcase the hottest young designers and design colleges. This year, the hall has been designed by Jens Fager.
And don’t miss the exciting programme of events in town! Stockholm Design Week is now a well-es- tablished, essential international affair, and the pro- gramme of special events in showrooms, galleries and museums continues to grow each year.
We look forward to seeing you at the fair and in the city!
