In an atelier on Storgatan in Östermalm, one of Sweden’s most interesting jewelsmiths is based. Sebastian Schildt loved precious stones already as a child, and it was natural to pursue this love as a career. For the past ten years he has managed Galleri Sebastian Schildt on Strandvägen, specializing in contemporary art and jewelry. The galleri is also participating in Summer Design Week.
Sebastian is both a silversmith and a goldsmith, but he loves to add design and entrepreneurship to his practice. “In my atelier, it is possible to order anything at all in gold and silver”, Sebastian says about his work. He creates high-end jewelry, everyday jewelry and utility items in silver. The items crafted have a high quality in terms of material, design and craftsmanship. “Jewelry is personal, and when I make bespoke items, I carefully consider the person who will wear and enjoy each piece.” Tassels is one of his most popular collections. It consists of a necklace and earrings with stones threaded by hand and composed in a setting of gold and silver. “Regardless of whether the fringes are long, short, colorful or ornate, Tassels emit the same conscious charisma. One thing I like about my Tassels is that they can be worn both with jeans and to a gala dinner”, he says about the collection. Sebastian is currently working with a new collection that he hopes to present in the near future.
Ten years ago Sebastian opened his galley. “I am very proud to be able to collaborate with, and present, so many of today’s leading artists.” The gallery has presented one hundred artists in various exhibitions. The exhibitions often result in the artists’ work ending up in important collections, at museums or in private homes. The gallery displays high-class art and jewelry in many different materials by both well-established artists and up-and-coming. “Together with my dream team Sofia Silfverstolpe and Dorota Liszke, we constantly strive to be influential, interesting and present things that might not be obvious for the public.”
The artwork is beautiful, inspirational and relevant. It represents contemporary society and are of such high quality that it can be described as future antiquities.
